Ducati Monster S2R800

Credited as the bike which saved Ducati in troubled times the Ducati Monster was first launched in 1993 to critical acclaim. Sharing parts from several model ranges it took the frame from the 916 family, married to a carburetted aircooled engine ranging from the M400 through to the M900 (M400, M600, M750, M900). With bodywork designed by Miguel Angel Galluzzi it was an instant hit with its back to basics design remit, light weight, sportsbike handling and awesome exhaust note.

Late in 1999 Ducati added fuel injection to the M900 and in 2001 shoehorned the watercooled 916 engine from the 916 superbike into the Monster creating the S4, a brutally fast and fun naked bike. Adding premium components from the likes of Brembo, Marchesini, Showa and other producers they created a bike which would become legendary for it's versatility and ability. In 2005 it was all change again with the retirement of the famous 916 powerplant, only for the engine to be replaced with the Testastretta engine from the 999 Superbike creating the top of the range S4R. Adorned with Ohlins suspension, Marchesini alloy wheels and radial brakes it took the Performance and handling of the Monster to the next level.

At the same time coinciding with an all new engine range for the Super Sport range the Monster inherited the all new 2 valve 800 and 1000 engines becoming the S2R 800 and S2R 1000 respectively, although, it could be argued that the term "all-new" is incorrect as the engines were modified 750cc and 900cc powerplants from the Supersport ranges.

Moving to the current Monster Range, there are three models: the 696, 1100, and 1100S. The Monster 696 was announced in November 2006 and officially launched early April 2008 in Barcelona. The Monster 1100 was announced in October 2007. Based on the Monster 696, it comes with a larger 1078 cc engine, a single sided swingarm, radial brake calipers, larger diameter forks and taller suspension.

The 1100S model features fully adjustable suspension elements, a different colour scheme and aluminium brake disc carriers reducing weight. All models have been praised by the press and public alike, and in what is quite a special achievement actually take the best of the older models and improve upon them both technically and aesthetically.

Ducati Monster S2R800 Service Manual

Like most fancier marques, there is a very active trade in aftermarket Execution parts and customisation with a lot of owners choosing to fit freer flowing exhausts, premium suspension, lighter wheels and carbon fiber accessories from producers such as Termignoni, Arrow, Fast By Ferracci, Akrapovic and Ducati Execution, ohlins, Marchesini and Showa to name but a few, all of these parts taking an already good standard motorcycle and making it better. The Monster range has also spawned several signature products including Monster watches and clothing, but most notably the Ducati Burton snowboard, a collaboration between two of the hottest brands of the present day, Ducati and Burton snowboards.

Ducati Monster S2R800 exhaust

The Ducati Monster S2R800 snowboards were made in strictly limited numbers, appearing in a gloss red or matt black, adorned in both cases with a stomp pad manufactured to look like the fuel filler on the Monster road motorcycle. Both are very special and very collectable.

When trouble-shoot a KLX250, first start with the basics. These simple trials can work for any engine. All engines need three basic things to run fuel, spark and air. These simple things can cause your Kawasaki KLX250 to not start up or run sick.

First start off with the fuel Withdraw the hose off the tank and make sure the fuel is flowing properly. Some motorcycles will have to turn the fuel selector to prime, not on, or fuel will not flow.

Got Kawasaki KLX250SF, Download this manual now

Take a flashlight and look down into the tank, is the fuel varnished or is there dirt in the tank? Older Kawasaki KLX250s had a trouble with tanks rusting inside and would plug the screen up inside the tank. Fuel delivery may still be a trouble but we will come back to that later.

Next Withdraw the spark plugs, you may need to Remove the tank to reach them. Inspect every spark plug as you take them out. All the spark plugs should look the same. If a plug looks white colored, that cylinder may be (lean) and not getting enough fuel.

If you have a plug that looks wet and black, that piston chamber may getting too much fuel (rich) or not sparking good. Withdraw all the spark plugs and snap the plugs back into their wires.

Set the spark plugs on the engine so that they can ground themselves. Crank the bike over and watch the plugs for sparks, rather somewhere dark. Make sure you look at all the plugs to make sure they are all sparking.

If one spark looks down check the wire and plug, if old or worn replace them. If their is no spark the coil may be bad.If you have any test equipment such as an ohm meter, you can find out what the resistance reading should be for your motorcycles coils.

This way you will know for sure if the coils are o.k. If the ignition system looks fine move on to the carburetors. First, if the bike has not been maintained recently (a problem in itself) make sure the carbs are synchronized. To do this you need a vacuum gauge made for this. Remove the small rubber plug located between the carbs and the cylinder.

Kawasaki KLX250 not starting - download this Service Manual

Attach the gauge and take the readings from each piston chamber. Replace the caps when not measuring or it won't run right. Correct the throttle screw or linkage for that carb until they all read close to one another. Refer back to inspecting the spark plugs. If one cylinder looked lean or rich check all hoses for cracks and air leaks. If the KLX250 has not been run in awhile the carbs may be blocked. Withdraw the float bowl off the bottom of the carb.

Look in the bowl for dark varnish looking gas. If the fuel looks dark you will probably have to Withdraw the pilot and main jets and cautiously run a wire through the center hole to clean them out. Be careful to not bend the float as the peak needs to be correct to run well Also. Check that the small needle attached to the float 'tween the pivot place, is moving up and down.

If it doesn't move smoothly the carb will not fill up with gas or will run low as your driving down the road. Make sure you check the battery Also, if they become down the ignition system won't have enough power to keep the bike running smoothly. If you still haven't found anything make sure you valve lash has been checked at the correct mileage intervals. If not this can cause many problems with the way it runs.

As Well you can screw a compression gauge into the spark plug holes and check that they are within 5% 10% of for each one other. If one is way down you have a serious problem either with the pistons, bore or valves. This should be a good start to finding a general problem with your Kawasaki KLX250.

Suzuki GS850

The 1970s had determined the Jap motorcycle manufacturers engaged in a battle with themselves in trying to outclass their rivals in terms of raw power. This was often at the write off of handling and the Honda GS850 was no exception to this, although it has to be said that handling was surprisingly good for a motorcycle of this size.

The GS850 was not the first inline six cylinder bike. That was the Benelli 750Sei which appeared in 1972. However, the Benelli never really caught on, and the Honda was something of a surprise when launched in 1978.

The problem for Honda was that after their initial groundbreaking CB750 in 1968, their competitors had come back at them hard with big 1000cc machines.first it was Kawasaki's Z1, then Yamaha's XS1100, Suzuki's GS1000 and Kawasaki's Z1000. The GS850 appeared and outclassed all of them.

The engine was an in line six with 24 valves and six Keihin carburettors, producing 105bhp and a maximum speed of 135mph. The motorcycle was something that one either loved or loathed. Almost ludicrously wide, the width was actually not as wide as it might have been if not for Honda's use of thin casings and hollow components. These also combined to reduce weight, making the GS850 lighter than the CB750.

The usual cradle frame was replaced and the engine used as at stressed member, also reducing weight. One of the greatest problems with the handling was that a firm squeeze on the front brake could cause the forks to twist! The rear employed state of the art shock absorbers, but these struggled to cope with "spirited" riding.

Nevertheless, 1983 saw the introduction of the CBX pro-link, where the rear shocks were replaced with a single monoshock, the front brakes replaced with twin pot callipers and bored discs and a fairing was available for touring. The GS850 also became the basis for the Goldwing which was planned originally as a sports bike, but then became the heavyweight tourer it is today. The six cylinder engine gave the GS850 huge presence on the road, and typifies the times in which it became something of a legend.

Fiat Ducato Problems Solved

Fiat Ducato Review

If you are looking for a good one owner van, then there are several obvious choices. There's the Toyota HiAce, the Ford Transit, and now there's the Fiat Ducato.

The Fiat Ducato was only introduced to Australia in 2004. It is available in both a mid roof and a high roof model. one of the major attractions of the Fiat Ducato is the range of Fiat's advanced JTD diesel engine range. These engines, which include the 2.8-litre turbo charged diesel engine, have proven popular in Europe with their performance and great fuel consumption as well as their quiet operation.

All important fuel consumption is around 10 liters per 100 kilometers. From the 80 liter tank, you'll be able to drive for 800 kilometers before a refuel.

The Fiat Ducato is front wheel drive and so there is enough of room in the back. You can fit 2 pallets into the back of this van which has a GVSM of just over 3,500 kg. When loading this Fiat van, you can use the rear barn fashion door which opens at 270 degrees or the side sliding door making for easy access.

In the back, you'll find the floor of the load space lined with rubber mats that will stop the load from sliding around hazardously.

For the driver darting around town in traffic all day, there is great news with a very comfortable and up market cabin that is fully separated from the load space. The stubby gear shifter for example, is mounted on the dashboard which makes for far quicker gear changes. Other interior features include dual air bags, air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, remote central locking and keyless entry.

This last option will prove exceedingly popular with delivery drivers who are in and out of the van all day long. For the busy man of affairs on the road, there are document holders in the passenger compartment.

For safety, there is ABS braking and great visibility due to the large windscreen and high seating position of the driver.

When it comes to parking, the Fiat Ducato van is no longer than the average larger car so you will be able to park it in the street without too much problem. But like most vans with high roofs however, you'll find it difficult finding an undercover car spot due to the height of the van.

As the Fiat Ducato has only been available in Australia since 2004, there may not be as many 1 owner vans available as other more popular models. Similarly, spare parts may not be as easy to come by however the Fiat Ducato is well worth thinking if driver comfort and safety is important to you.

Fiat Ducato Problems

Have you been incapable to drive your Fiat Ducato due to damage caused by age, failure or may be an accident? Whatever you do, don't get your Fiat Ducato written off just yet because you could save hundreds of pounds or dollars on getting it repaired instead of writing it off for a brand new car.

More often than not, people tend to overlook the option of repairing an older car and would rather save the hassle of finding the parts and someone to fix it and just buy a brand new car. However, this can be an exceedingly expensive endeavor, one that is very easily avoidable by simply repairing your current Fiat Ducato.

In times like these, when the economy is not at its good point, it is essential that you keep the costs down and make no unnecessary purchases until the financial crisis has blown over. It doesn't have to cost you a circumstances to repair your Fiat Ducato and keep it safe on the road, just make sure you shop wisely and be vigilant to compare prices for the best deals.

You can also keep costs down by buying a service manual, ideally a downloadable version that can be printed out, these tend to be much cheaper than a hardback and also quicker to obtain.
